  • The best Peru has got to offer

  • Carved by the Urubamba River, a huge Valley stretches out in the middle of the Peruvian highlands, in the Andes. Over the ages inhabited by huge empires and greedy invaders, the mysticism of the Cusco Region still manages to grasp many tourists. As the mind-blowing home to the Inca civilization, the Cusco Region is high on the list of many travelers and backpackers. Not only because of the ancient citadel of Machu Picchu. Incredible panoramic sceneries and tons of ancient Inca sites and ruins. Add to this the spiritual retreat centers and rural jungle and mountain farmers. It is no wonder so many different types of travelers find their way to Cusco. Discover here what all the hype is about.

Pisac is, according to scholar Kim MacQuarrie, one of the royal estates built by Pachacuti. He was the 9th ruler of the Kingdom of Cusco. Pachacuti is believed to have built estates in memory of his victories while making his kingdom an empire. Other examples are said to be Ollantaytambo and Machu Picchu. There are other theories going around though. What can be said for certain is that Pisac has not been inhabited by pre-Inca cultures. Therefore, scholars think the earliest date of its build can only be 1440. It was destroyed in 1530 by Spanish forces, which led to it being rebuilt in the valley under its previous location in 1570.

These days Pisac’s main aces are the many ruins and terraces up the hill at the entrance of the valley. Also, its traditional market is a very popular destination. Every Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday a huge part of the village turns into a sales ground for artisanal products. Coming here from Cusco on a 45-minute drive, you will see some beautiful landscapes on a known scenic route. Because of the native traditions and maintained architecture in the valley landscape, people call it the Living Museum Town. In addition, Pisac has a view with a lot of mountains as well as open horizons. In short, a perfect visible example of what a real Sacred Valley town is and offers.
