Real Inca Trail To Machu Picchu 4d/3n
4 DAYS - 3 NIGHTS
Description
The Inca Trail is considered to be by many adventure specialists one of the most breathtaking trails that exist today, and one that everyone should hike in their lifetime; it is a unique and unforgettable experience! The trail begins at kilometer 82 and stretches until the ancient citadel of Machu Picchu; the highest point on the trail is over 4,000 meters above sea level. With its surreally beautiful mountain landscapes and misty mystery of the “eyebrow of the jungle,” this trail is a worthy challenge worth completing.
The great demand of this route by people who enjoy hiking and adventure, make the Inca Trail the most sought after in the world. The limited spaced that the government gives out (only 500 spaces a day – tourists, porters, guides, and cooks) of course limits the access to this adventure, which is why we recommend booking about 5-6 months in advance. Itinerary
GENERAL PROGRAM:
Day 01: Cusco – KM 82 – Piscacucho – Wayllabamba.
At 6:30am we will pick you up from your hotel to start our trip by bus to Kilometer 82 of the train. We will arrive at around 10:00am, and then get to know the group of people who will help us during our journey. This group consists of porters, cooks, and hosts for your comfort. After meeting our trekking team we will embark on this great adventure!
The first day’s leg of the trail provides an unbelievable view of the beautiful Verónica Glacier. We will walk along the Vilcanota River until the archaeological complex of Patallacta, where our team will be waiting for us with a delicious lunch so that we can refuel and regroup. After lunch, we will continue to Huayllabamba, where we will set up our first camp. (Lunch and dinner included)
Day 02: Wayllabamba – Llulluchapampa – Pacaymayo
After a fortifying breakfast, we will begin our second day on the trail, which is perhaps the most difficult. We will have to ascend to the Warmihuañusca pass (“dead woman’s pass”) located at 4,200 meters above sea level (the highest point on the Inca trail). At this point, we will pause and take in the panoramic glacier views surrounding the pass. After lunch, we will begin our descent to the Pacaymayo Valley, where we will set up our second camp. (Breakfast, lunch, and dinner included)
Day 03: Pacaymayo – Phuyupatamarca – Wiñaywayna
After lunch, we will hit the trail again! After about half an hour hiking, we will arrive at the archaeological complex of Runqurakay. At this point, we will begin a cobblestone trail that at certain points is almost two meters wide; yet another amazing feat of Incan engineering. Next, we will visit Sayamarca, a beautiful architectural complex, and we will pass through a tunnel created in the mountain face. On the other side of this tunnel we will arrive at the ruins of Phuyaoaramarca, which is where we will begin our descent into the lush flora and diverse fauna of the “eyebrow of the jungle.” After two hours we will arrive at Wiñaywayna, where we will set up our very last campsite. (Breakfast, lunch and dinner included)
Optional: In this area, it is possible to shower with hot water, at a restaurant located nearby.
Day 04: Wiñaywayna – Machu Picchu
After breakfast, we will continue on the trail until reaching Inti Punk (the Sun Gate) from where we will fully appreciate our destination: the ancient citadel of Machu Picchu! We will descend from the Sun Gate down to the prized ruins where our guide will take us to the most renowned spots. Through these sites, we will be able to further understand its magic and ponder its mystery. We will also be able to understand a bit more about the great Incan culture and impressive knowledge. The tour will last for about two hours, and then you will have some time with the citadel on your own.
In the afternoon, we will return to Ollantaytambo by train and then head to Cusco by bus. We will arrive in Cusco at approximately 10:30 (breakfast included). Keep in mind that today lunch is not included, and for that reason, it is a good idea to purchase some snacks and arrange for your lunch outside of the ruins or in the town of Aguas Calientes.
