If you are a true chocolate lover and are curious about discovering the origin of this delicious substance, we invite you to travel with us to the jungle region outside of Cusco. In this emerging cocoa tour, we dive deeper into learning about different types of cocoa beans grown in this region, how these specialized producers work, as well as making our own hot chocolate from scratch. Learn how these chocolate producers maintain an impeccable product with each batch and discover why farmers must ferment harvested cacao. Talk with the farmers and get to know how they live in the Peruvian countryside. Share with a local family a little bit of your daily life as well. Also, learn about a very famous variety of cacao called Chuncho, and discover why it is so famous.

Immerse yourself

Join in this unique experience with us, a local operator that has worked with farmers since 2008, and learn about the processes of cacao production from the source. These families still uphold traditional practices such as raising free-range animals such as guinea pigs and chickens. You will also find different tropical plants, fruits, root vegetables, coca plants, and many more!

During your trip, you will be exposed to breathtaking Andean and jungle landscapes in Cusco. If you wish to start this tour from Ollantaytambo after your Sacred Valley tour we can easily arrange this for you, and it will reduce the length of the trip to Quillabamba. Day 1: Cusco – Quillabamba

Day 2: Quillabamba – Cusco or Hydroelectric plant (train station)

Notes:

• It is possible to visit a coffee plantation on the second day of this trip as an additional service (add $30.00 per person)
• If you wish to add the Machu Picchu extension to this tour, then we can bring you to the train station, or you can organize this tour through us. The departure time will be at approximately 10:00 am. You can take the train at 2:50 pm
• If your group speaks Spanish and does not require a bilingual guide, then we can offer you a discount of $100.00 per group (Including a local guide from Quillabamba as a host)

Cocoa farm Immersion Tour 2D Includes:

Machu Picchu +1D

We can arrange to extend the Focused Cocoa Tour 2D for one more day to include a trip to Machu Picchu. If you choose this option, the extended itinerary will follow this schedule:

After breakfast on day 2, we will bid farewell to the family and continue on our way to the train station, where we will travel to the town of Aguas Calientes and arrive at approximately 6 pm. You will have the night to spend at your leisure in your hostel (basic accommodation with hot water – can be upgraded if requested). In your hostel, your guide will explain what the tour for the next day entails and afterward you can relax in the hot springs of Aguas Calientes!

Machu Picchu

The next morning, we will take about a 30-minute bus ride to Machu Picchu. We will visit the citadel of Machu Picchu for a few hours with your guide, and then you will have some time to explore the magical complex on your own and take photos. You will also have time to climb Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain at an additional cost. Either the Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain entrance ticket is purchased at the same time as the Machu Picchu entrance, and we recommend purchasing these tickets in advance because there are limited spaces.

After lunch on your own, outside of Machu Picchu (food is not allowed in the citadel), you will take the bus back down to Aguas Calientes for your return trip to Cusco. You will know your exact train schedule as soon as we buy your train ticket. You will arrive in Cusco by bus at approximately 10:00 pm.
