Farm & Trek to Machu Picchu

The Inca Jungle Route, Through Cusco’s Coffee and Cacao Valleys

Most travelers reach Machu Picchu by train through the Sacred Valley. These tours take the back door. From Cusco, you cross the Abra Málaga pass, at more than 4,300 meters, and descend into the cloud forest of La Convención, the valley where Cusco’s coffee and cacao grow. There you spend time with a local farming family, working with your own hands, before continuing through Santa María and Santa Teresa to Hidroeléctrica. This is the Inca Jungle route at a slower pace: instead of adventure sports, you spend your time with the families who farm the valley.

From Hidroeléctrica, a 2.5 to 3-hour walk along the railway, through the jungle, takes you to Aguas Calientes, and the next morning you visit Machu Picchu. You return to Cusco by train. Choose the 2-day trail, or a 5-day program that combines it with Cusco and the Sacred Valley.
