Our Cusco Region Extended 6D tour is the full package for anyone who wishes to visit and experience the real Cusco city and rural Sacred Valley. You will enjoy getting to know local families and learn about their customs and traditions! In addition to embarking on the classic Cusco city and Sacred Valley tours, you will be able to meet one Andean family living at more than 3,500 meters in the Andean Mountains, and the other in Cusco’s jungle region surrounded by farms containing tropical produce such as coffee! You will learn about this product and appreciate what goes into preparing a great cup of coffee. You will also be able to prepare your own coffee using artisanal methods. Finally, you will visit Machu Picchu, having experienced a taste of local life and tradition.

    Itinerary

    Cusco Region Extended 6D Tour Itinerary

    Day 1: Cusco City

    TBD  Pick-up at the airport and transfer to your hotel. It is recommended that you rest to acclimate to the altitude.
    13:30 Pick-up at your hotel to begin your tour visiting the most popular and representative attractions in Cusco. These include the Cathedral, the Temple of Koricancha, and the archaeological complexes of Sacsaywaman, Qenqo, Puca Pucara, and Tambomachay. The tour will last approximately 4 hours.
    17:30 At the end of your tour, you will enjoy a fresh cup of COCLA coffee (included) and if you would like, you will be able to buy local organic products such as coffee and chocolate.
    18:30 Free night to explore the city at your leisure.

    Day 2: Cusco, Sacred Valley, Andean Community in the Sacred Valley

    08:00  At approximately this time we will stop by your hotel to pick you up and take you into the heart of the Sacred Valley. Our first stop will be at the town and archaeological ruins of Pisac that is known for its large agricultural terraces hugging the mountainside.  After this visit, we will make our way yo the Andean community in the Sacred Valley for a unique experience learning about local customs.
    PM You will have lunch with the community, and afterward, you will participate in some coveted local traditions, such as learning about local agriculture centered around potatoes, and Andean grains, among others. The specific program will depend on the time of year.
    18:00 Dine with the community before turning in for the evening.

    Day 3: Andean Community, Ollantaytambo, Huayopata (Coffee Farm)

    08:00  After a lovely breakfast, we will begin our tour today en route to Ollantaytambo, where we will visit its impressive Incan ruins. If time allows, we will also tour the local town, which has maintained urban Incan design characterized by its narrow streets and water canal system.
    13:00 Lunch will be in Urubamba or Ollantaytambo, and afterward, we will continue to our second homestay on the coffee plantation in the middle of the jungle region outside of Cusco. During this three-hour journey, you will marvel at the Veronica mountain and Apu (sacred mountain in Andean cosmology) guardian of the local population. We will also pass through Malaga Port at 4,300 meters, where you will be able to take some photos and take in the stark beauty at such a high altitude.
    16:00 The afternoon will be yours to spend as you please before dining with the family.

    Day 4: Huayopata, Santa Maria, Santa Teresa, Hidroeléctrica Train Station, Aguas Calientes Town

    07:30  Breakfast
    09:00 After breakfast with the family, we will head to their farm to learn more about their livelihood. Here, you will try local fruit that is in season, and learn about different tropical produce such as coffee, cacao, coca, tea, among others. You will learn most about coffee, which is one of the representative products of the area, and which the family exports through their cooperative. These cooperatives award organic certification as well as adhere to fair trade practices. You will discover what exactly is behind a great cup of coffee, and even be able to prepare your own coffee in the traditional artisanal way of the region.
    13:00 Lunch
     14:00 After lunch, we will bid farewell to the family and continue on our way to the train station, where we will travel to the town of Aguas Calientes and arrive at approximately 6 pm.
    18:00 You will have the night to spend at your leisure in your hostel (basic accommodation with hot water – can be upgraded). In your hostel, your guide will explain what the tour for the next day entails, and afterward, you can relax in the hot springs of Aguas Calientes!

    Day 5: Machu Picchu

    07:30  Breakfast
    08:30 After breakfast, we will take about a 30-minute bus ride to the ancient citadel. We will visit the citadel of Machu Picchu for a few hours with your guide, and then you will have some time to explore the magical complex on your own and take photos. Note: You will also have time to climb Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain at an additional cost. The entrance tickets to these must be purchased at the same time as the Machu Picchu entrance ticket ahead of time. Spaces are limited.
    13:00 Lunch (on your own)
     14:00 You will take the bus back down to Aguas Calientes for your return trip to Cusco. You will know your exact train schedule as soon as we buy your train ticket.
    22:00 Approximate arrival back in Cusco.

    Day 6:  Cusco – Lima

    TBD  Breakfast (on your own)
    TBD We will pick you up and take you to the airport for about an hour and a half before your flight. Considering your check-out will most likely be at 10 am, you will be able to leave your luggage in hotel storage if your flight is in the afternoon.
