Short Inca Trail to Machu Picchu 2d/1n

This 2-day Inca Trail is an excellent option for those who have only a short amount of time and are craving a slice of adventure on the famous Inca Trail!

During this two-day tour we will visit the archaeological complex Wiñayhuayna, one of the most impressive in this region. We will also hike directly to the Sun Gate where we will be able to marvel at the ancient citadel of Machu Picchu from up on high.

Unlike the classic 4-day Inca Trail, here we will not sleep in a tent, but in an Aguas Calientes hostal. If you would like a hotel upgrade, we can make arrangements in advance.

The 2D/1N Inca Trail also only has a limit of 500 spaces per day and is administered by the National Cultural Institue of Cusco, which is why it is a good idea to reserve the tour at least 3-4 months in advance.

Day 1: Travel by bus to the trail head and hike in the afternoon

Start time: 6:00am – End time: 6:00pm

Day 2: Machu Picchu tour and return to Cusco

Start time 5:30am – End time 9:00pm (Approximate time)

ITINERARY:

Day 1: CUSCO – CHACHABAMBA – WIÑAYHUAYNA –AGUAS CALIENTES (Machu Picchu town)

6:30am Transfer from your hotel to the train station. Get off the train at Kilometer 104

10:00am Start the hike

16:30pm Arrival at Aguas Calientes – End of activities for the day

Day 2: AGUAS CALIENTES – MACHU PICCHU – CUSCO

5:30am Bus to Machu Picchu

6:20am Guided visit of Machu Picchu (schedule subject to change in coordination with the group)

16:00pm Return to Cusco (approximate time)

PROGRAM OF THE SHORT INCA TRAIL TO MACHU PICCHU

Day 01. Cusco – KM.104 – Chachabamba – Wiñay Huayna – Aguas Calientes

We will pick you up at your accommodation at around 6-6:30am (you will have to verify the exact time from your hotel the day before). From here, we will take you to the train station where we will take the train to kilometer 104: the beginning of our trek! After about four hours of hiking, we will have lunch and then continue on to the Wiñaywayna complex for a guided tour. Our last stop will be at the Sun Gate of Machu Picchu to take in the magnificent site below. We will then take a bus down to Aguas Calientes and our hostal to spend the night.

Day 02. Aguas Calientes – Machu Picchu – Cusco

After breakfast, we will ascend to Machu Picchu. Those who have Huayna Picchu tickets should make their ascent as early as possible. This ticket should also be bought with anticipation, because there are a limited number of spaces (400 per day). The Machu Picchu tour with your guide will last about 2 – 2:30 hours and then you will have some free time to enjoy and discover the citadel on your own terms. Afterwards, we will make our descent back to Aguas Calientes and return to Cusco by train.
